How Rimwize works
The catalogue
Rimwize is a side-by-side spec table for bicycle wheelsets. Catalogue rows start from published manufacturer figures. Community rows are submitted through Add a wheelset.
What the numbers mean
- Internal Width
- The distance between the bead seats, inside the rim. Wider internals support a more open tire casing — comfort and grip, with aero tradeoffs.
- External width
- Outside of the rim at the brake track / tire interface. Matters for how a tire sits in the airflow.
- Depth
- Bead seat to nipple bed. Mixed-depth sets list front / rear. Deeper is usually faster in a straight line and worse in gusts.
- Hookless vs Hooked
- Hookless rims omit the bead hook. They often run wider and need a compatible tire and a pressure cap. Do not mix casually.
- Claimed Weight
- Sticker weight from the brand, typically without tape or valves. Real pairs vary. If you weigh a set, put the scale reading in notes.
Scraping, later
Live scraping of brand sites is not running here. Manufacturer pages change, block bots, and often forbid reuse in their terms. A durable catalogue is: structured seed data, community forms, and if you go further, a polite, licensed ingest pipeline with robots.txt, rate limits, and a human review queue. The form is the honest source of new rows today.
